Description of HIV and AIDS

HIV: – HIV is known as a Human Immunodeficiency Virus. HIV is a group of retroviruses that weaken the immune system of body and badly decrease the CD4 cells count.

AIDS: – AIDS is known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and also people as a late stage of HIV infection. AIDS diagnosed when the ImmunoSystems is badly damaged by HIV virus & also drastically decrease the CD4 cells count.

Difference between HIV and AIDS

HIV is a virus that causes the AIDS, AIDS is the last stage of HIV infection. HIV virus continuously damages the immune system by gradually destroying the CD4 cells (T cells).

HIV infection spreads in human body through three stages: –

(i) Acute HIV infection, (ii) Clinical latency (Chronic HIV infection) and (iii) AIDS if not treated.

AIDS is an advance stage of infection caused by the HIV.AIDS is not a virus but it’s a condition that develops when HIV infection is untreated. ART (Antiretroviral therapy) can prevent HIV from proceeding to AIDS by subdue the Virus.

Different stages of HIV

(a) Acute HIV Infection: – This stage occurs within the 4 to 5 weeks after transmission of virus when virus rapidly replicates into the human body.

Human body shows the various symptoms like flu/fever, rashes and swollen lymph nodes.

(b) Chronic HIV Infection (Clinical Latency): -In this stage HIV virus active but can’t multiply at very low speed. Human body shows mild symptoms.

(c) AIDS: – It is the final stage of HIV infection, its diagnosis when damage 50- 60 % of human immune system.

(i) On of the main reason of spreading HIV is doing unprotected sexual intercourse.

(ii) Mother to Child transmission during pregnancy and childbirth.

(iii) Through sharing contaminated of infected person.

(iv) Through making of tattoos by some using infected equipment’s.

(v) Sharing the personal items like razors and blood infected personal care items.

(vi) Spread through needle injuries of contaminated patient.

(vii) AIDS is last stage of HIV infection developed when person is not treated.

Causes of HIV and AIDS

(b) Swollen occurs in Lymph nodes.

(c) Rapidly Weight loss.

(d) Skin rashes occur, and lesions form on body.

(e) Diarrhea happens to patients.

(f) Fever and Chills.

Symptoms of HIV and AIDS

What is the test to detect HIV?

There are basically four tests are suggested and examine by the Doctor to find out the HIV presence in a human body.

(a) CD4 Cell Count: – This test is carried out to examine the Numbers of CD4 T-cells (T-cells are the types of White Blood Cells) in the blood and this test indicates the infection and progression of the disease in the human body. This test does not directly examine the HIV virus but helps in examination of HIV.

(b) Antibody Screening Test also known as Immunoassay. This is first or initial test carried out to examine the HIV antibodies in the blood.

(c) Antibody Combination test (Fourth-Generation Test): – This mention test detects both the HIV antibodies and antigens in blood. This test helps to examines the HIV infection earlier and immune response.

(d) RNA Test: – This test is also known as Nucleic Acid Test. This test detects RNA of HIV Virus instead of detecting antibodies or antigen. RNA test is highly sensitive test to detect HIV infection.

These tests are conducted in combination or sequentially depending on the infection stages and only for diagnosis and monitoring purposes.
